What is The Greater Earth?

I've been working on this Game World for many years now, admittedly in fits and starts. Although originally medieval in period (largely due to the influences of the games it was originally intended for -- DragonQuest, King Arthur Pendragon and others), I've never been entirely satisfied that this suited what I intended as a "world feel." So I thought I'd leave the game material "generic" and allow anyone interested to use whatever game system they felt fitted into this world. However, with the recent release of Dungeons and Dragons 3rd Edition, I've decided to take the plunge back into D&D. So, a major conversion effort is underway. Here's the world so far. Your feedback is welcomed (please remove the obvious "spam block content" from the email address before sending).

Jack Vance is one of my favorite authors, and his influence can be seen in many aspects of the game world, in particular the quirkiness and off-beat humor present in many of the peoples and place names. The Pigmen of Snarl, Goblin marauders troubling the lands of Kedril, are a good example:

Pigmen of Snarl
"And a journey was begun for the first clue to the location of the Object of Power. But danger lay all about in the form of marauders bearing the visage of boars and hogs most foul. And it was, therefore, that the adventurers were hard-pressed to prove their mettle, for what their foe lacked in skill and ways of strength they made good in numbers."

The clay masks the Pigmen wear serve to counter the effects of evil spirits. The fact that they also protect the wearer against the harmful effects of the Sun is a secondary consideration. The Pigmen of Snarl always protect their Leader, with at least one First Caste Pigman acting as a personal bodyguard. The Leader carries the Pigman Tribal Banner upon his back, flying atop two thin poles. Should the Leader be killed, and the banner lost, the Pigmen will automatically flee. They may regroup later, but won’t trouble anyone until a new Leader is appointed. Attacks from Pigmen will be accompanied by grunting feral noises (suitably in keeping with their short statures) and hateful glares from their greedy, piggy little eyes. Needless to say, roleplaying the Pigmen can be very interesting...
